GRANVILLE EDUCATION FOUNDATION GRANTS!

Mrs. Magnanti wrote a grant entitled "The Week" Wednesdays totaling almost $1000. Teachers will use the common instructional framework strategy protocols to develop activities in which students discuss the article as it relates to their current content, write about their opinion on a topic with justification from what they read, or use the information to create some scientific hypothesis or mathematical equation. In an effort to promote and increase student literacy, teachers across content areas will be using this weekly publication to encourage students to put away technology and read a magazine with articles that interest them. This grant is a matching grant that will allow our students to continue to use "The Week" for the 2016-2017 school year.

Mrs. Phelps grant for almost $5000.00 was for the purchase of state of the art microscopes to be used by students in the Biology classroom. Inquiry is an essential process for students to learn, understand and grow as scientific thinkers.  According to the North Carolina Essential Standards for science courses, “Teachers, when teaching science, should provide opportunities for students to engage in “hands-on/minds-on” activities that are exemplars of scientific inquiry, experimentation and technological design.”  This project is for the enhancement of student learning in every unit of the Biology Curriculum using technology driven labs with microscopes and prepared slides to provide students the kinesthetic opportunity to view a variety of cells, cell types, cell organelles, and micro-organisms
